Last semester I took a class on nature writing with Professor Samuel Pickering. My professor was an incredible man who truly revitalized my perspective on school and everything about the world we live in. His 8 am lectures taught me that it's most important to laugh and reflect on the small moments and details of your life. Pickering's intense appreciation for both nature and people has made a lasting impression on me. I hope I can capture just some of the insatiable enthusiasm he has.
After class one day I told him I would be studying in Australia in the fall, and this is what he said, "Jessica, heres what you do, when you get to Australia, buy a travel book and you go and travel and you'll have a wonderful time, but there's one problem. You'll have to make a decision between school and living. At Uconn, you work hard and get good grades, but in Australia, you'll have to choose to live."
